Fast & Furious 10 has been pushed back a month, and will now release on May 19, 2023.

The eagerly anticipated instalment of the popular action franchise had originally been scheduled to come out on April 7, 2023, but producers and Universal Pictures seem to have had a rethink about its Easter opening, which was reportedly carved out way back in 2015, following the success of F7, the series' highest-grossing title to date.

Fast & Furious 9released on May 19 this year, was among the highest-grossing movies released during the pandemic, making $681.5 million at the global box office. As of December 14, the film has now grossed $726 million worldwide, while James Bond flick No Time to Die has surpassed that figure with $771 million.

Directed by Tokyo Drift's Justin Lin, following his eight-year Fast & Furious absence, F9 saw Vin Diesel once again reprise his role as Dom Toretto, and share the screen with fellow returning players Jordana Brewster, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang and Game of ThronesNathalie Emmanuel.

Dame Helen Mirren, Michelle Rodriguez, and Charlize Theron also made comebacks in the movie, while John Cena joined the franchise as Dom's estranged brother Jakob Toretto.

May 2023 will also see the releases of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy - Vol.3 (May 5) and Disney's live-action The Little Mermaid (May 26), so Fast & Furious 10 will likely be facing some stiff competition when it comes to cinema occupancy and ticket sales.

With the franchise set to wrap things up for good in Fast & Furious 11, Diesel previously explained: "Every story deserves its own ending. I know people are going to feel like it doesn't have to end, but I think all good things should.

"There are reasons for a finale. I think this franchise has deserved it," he added.

Fast & Furious 10 will be released on May 19, 2023.
